3/27/2011 - Golan Winery & Dag al Ha'Dan

After leaving Har Bental, we traveled to the Golan Winery, maker of Golan, Galil and Yarden wines.  All of their wines are Kosher - made and bottled by Orthodox Jews.  To maintain kashrut of the wine, it must also be opened by a Jew, otherwise it becomes traife.

We tasted Chardonnay, Merlot and Moscato (my favorite).

Ready to taste.

We found an Israeli cookbook with a recipe for Shakshuka that was a little different than Yitzchak's recipe, but still looked good.

We returned to the Kfar Blum to rest up before heading out for dinner at Dag al Ha'Dan on the Dan River.

The restaurant was campy in feel with two large swans floating in a pond formed from the Dan River out front, but the meal was excellent - we started with the usual salads and pita and then moved to grilled trout and barramundi.  The trout was sweet with no fishy taste at all.  The meal ended with mint tea and small buttery shortbread cookies.

When we got back to the hotel we were able to call home as tomorrow is Bec's 25th birthday.  She was running her first half-marathon today and when we called before dinner (there is an 8 hour time difference) she was still running.  She finished the half-marathon in 2 hours, 26 minutes and said she would share photos of the run as a friend of hers, Tyson, ran with her and took pictures along the way.  To celebrate her birthday, Liz was taking Bec for a pedicure and then they were having dinner with Ben.

We will be home a week from today and the trip will be a collection of wonderful memories.
