3/25/2011 - Beit Aharonson - Zichron Yaacov

We drove north from Tel Aviv toward Mt. Carmel (Karem-Vineyard; El-God).  We passed a water tower in Zicron Yaacov that has a painting of Theodore Herzl on it.

We went to Beit Aharonson in Zichron Yaacov.  Aaron Aharonson led a group of spies - many of his family members - that kept the British informed during their battle with the Turks.  They were known as the NILI.  Aaron's sister Sarah, was taken into custody and beaten.  She knew that if she returned to prison, she would be beaten more.  When they took her home for a change of clothing, she ran her bath, but took a gun from a secret chamber in the doorway and attempts to kill herself.  She lingered for four days before dying.

We left Beit Aharonson and walked in Zichron Yaakov where we had fresh squeezed pomegranate juice and saw a variety of shops, including a homemade paper studio.

We reboarded the bus and headed to Caesaria.
