3/18/2011 - Read after "Arrival in Tsfat" - Shabbat with Livnot

Our Shabbat evening with Livnot was very enlightening.  We began by sharing our "spark" for the week.  There were about 50 students/young adults, some from the University of Miami on BirthRight, others just taking advantage of what Livnot offers them - learning, working, praying and play - all with a spiritual tone.  We took part in Kabballat Shabbat on the terrace, singing and dancing as the sun fell behind Mt. Meron.  We sang Yedid Nefesh, Mizmor L'David and L'cha Dodi before walking the alleyways of Tsfat.  We ventured into a couple of shuls, one literally in the courtyard of two restaurants closed for Shabbat.  The final shul was a Chassidic shul with the women in the balcony looking over at the men prayign below, maning wearing the full Chassidic garb - fur hats, long coats or kittels.

We returned through the narrow alleys to Livnot for dinner with the students.  Woven into dinner were various Wow Moments by some of the staff and students.  Their insight at such young age is very gratifying.  Dinner itself was a little strange, but had been made by the students:  whole-wheat Challah (a bit dense), various salads (hummus, red cole slaw, roasted peppers, Israeli Salad (cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, peppers with a bit of lemon juice, olive oil, salt and pepper), green beans, rice with mushrooms, and roasted chicken.  A simple meal, but a very enjoyable evening.  After benching, which took some time to complete - they could always come up with one more way to accentuate the "hey" - we walked back to the Inn for a good night's rest.
