3/26/2011 - On the Way to Kfar Blum

We left Tel Hatzor and went through Kiryat Shimona - a city near the Lebanese border that was where many Russian immigrants lived - to Metula a town on the Lebanese border.  We went up to the Dado Lookout, named for a general in the Yom Kippur War of 1973.  From this point we could see villages in Lebanon as well as Mt. Hermon (Israel's highest peak and home to its only ski area) and the Hula Valley below.

While at the Dado Lookout, Nir told us about the relationship between Black September and a massacre of Palestinians by Jordanians.  He also spoke of the Good Fence that allowed Lebanese and Israelis to pass through each direction (mostly Lebanese coming into Israel).  The arrangement of the Good Fence ended after the disagreements occurred with Lebanon.

We arrived at Kfar Blum for dinner and Havdalah and then retired to our room for a good night's sleep.  Our room is the Frank Sinatra room - complete with a photo of Frank Sinatra when he was in his 30s and a bio/story in Hebrew.
