3/25/2011 - Caesaria

In Caesaria we saw the amphitheatre and the Hippodrome where chariot races were held during Harrod's reign.  When the archaeologists found the remains, they were able to reconstruct all of the buildings as they had been originally because the Romans always built by the book.  Caesaria was the home at one point of Pontius Pilate who was the prefector (Governor) of Caesaria.  He killed many Jews after the death of Jesus, so many that he was called back to Rome.  Since we were last here in 1971, they have unearthed the hippodrome and all of the structures between the amphitheatre on the south and aqueducts on the north.  This is a truly remarkable site to see.
